Mount Vernon resident Ronald Jones has been sentenced to prison time after pleading guilty to robbing a city barbershop while armed with a gun in October last year. He was also sentenced for a DWI dating back to last September in an unrelated case.
On Oct. 7 last year, Jones walked into the Mount Vernon barbershop with a loaded handgun, Westchester County District Attorney Anthony Scarpino, Jr., announced this week. He proceeded to rob three employees of the barbershop while wielding the weapon, during which two of the clients were young boys.
Scarpino said that a Good Samaritan intervened, grabbing Jones from behind as he and the employees “wrestled Jones to the floor and recovered the gun.” They were able to then hold him down until members of the Mount Vernon Police Department responded. Officers recovered the gun and arrested Jones at the barbershop.
In an unrelated case, Jones was busted for a felony DWI and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle from a check-point traffic stop on Sept. 2 last year, which led to a revocation of his license.
Jones pleaded guilty to three counts of first-degree robbery and one count of criminal possession of a weapon. He was sentenced to four terms of 10 years. He was also sentenced for one year in prison for the DWI, which will all run concurrently. He will also serve five years of post-release supervision.
